21 SMARTEST PEOPLE IN THE WORLD

Back when you were in school, there was always that one kid who was smarter than you. But chances are even the teacher’s pet would pale in comparison to these big brained behemoths.
These are the world’s most intelligent people, both based on IQ and contributions to their fields. From movie stars, to magazine columnists, to those who work quietly in classrooms and labs, they are changing the world whether or not you know it.

21. Noam Chomsky -  



                                      is a world-renowned linguist, philosopher, and political commentator. Educated at numerous Ivy League schools, Chomsky is considered “the father of modern linguistics” and is a Professor Emeritus at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. His IQ is unknown. 

20. stephen hawkings -




                                      While his name may be much more famous than many on this list, Stephen Hawking’s IQ of 160 is lower than many of his fellow geniuses. Nevertheless, his impact in the realm of theoretical physics and cosmology is beyond comparison. 

19. Manahel Thabet -


Manahel Thabet is a Yemeni economist and scientist known for becoming the youngest person and only Arab to earned a PhD in Financial Engineering magna cum laude. The winner of multiple awards – including for her humanitarian work through the UN – Thabet boasts an IQ of 168.

18. Judit Polgár -

 

 Polgár is a chess grandmaster from Hungary. She is considered the greatest female chess player of all time. She is said to have an IQ of 170.

17. John Sununu-

With a reported IQ of 180, John H. Sununu has an impressive life story. Born in Cuba in 1939, Sununu later moved to the United States and graduated from MIT (with 3 separate degrees). Aside from a perfect score on his SATs, Sununu has had an impressive political career as a New Hampshire state representative, a White House Chief of Staff under George H. W. Bush, and as governor of New Hampshire from 1983 to 1989.

16. Magnus Carlsen

At 24 years old, Carlsen is the youngest person on this list. The reigning World Chess Champion and arguably the best chess player of all time, this Norwegian’s IQ is unknown.

15. Benjamin Netanyahu

Realistically, it makes sense that a world leader should be so smart. Benjamin Netanyahu, prime minister of Israel, has an IQ of about 180. Who knew?

14. Steven Pinker-

Pinker is a Canadian-American psychologist who currently teaches at Harvard University. He is considered one of the world’s most influential intellectuals.

13. James Woods-

You may recognize him from his lengthy acting career in films like The Virgin Suicides, White House Down, or as the voice of Hades in Disney’s Hercules, but did you know that James Woods has an IQ of about 180? He graduated from MIT with a degree in political science.

12. Philip Emeagwali-


Emeagwali is a Nigerian-born engineer and computer scientist with an estimated IQ of 190.

11. Ruth Lawrence-

 Though her IQ is unknown, Ruth Lawrence was a child prodigy who graduated from Oxford University at the age of 13. She is now a mathematics professor at the Einstein Institute of Mathematics in Jerusalem.

10 .  Saul Kripke-

Kripke is a Professor Emeritus at Princeton University in the field of philosophy. He is considered one of the most influential people in the world of logic and philosophy today.

9. Garry Kasparov-

Kasparov is a former World Chess Champion and political activist, working as an opposition leader to Vladimir Putin. Many consider him to be the greatest chess player of all time. With a reported IQ 190, he sits on the Human Rights Foundation.

8. Richard Rosner-

 Rosner is a brilliant television writer with an IQ of about 190-192 and a bizarre career path. He reportedly spent 10 years in high school and went on to do nude modeling and other gigs before becoming an TV writer and producer. He sued Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? after incorrectly answering a question. He is known for following a strict regiment of taking health pills each day.

7. Evangelos Katsioulis-


Katsioulis is a Greek doctor known for his high IQ score of between 198 and 205. He is the founder of the World Intelligence Network, an organization for high IQ societies.

6. Neil deGrasse Tyson -

 While his IQ is unknown, this charismatic astrophysicist and cosmologist is one of the brightest people on the planet. He is an advocate for expanding NASA and also for social justice.

5. Kim Ung-yong-

 

Kim Ung-yong is a Korean civil engineer and former Guinness World Record holder for highest IQ (about 210). He has had an IQ score of over 200 since he was 4 years old.
 Christopher Hirata is a former child prodigy with a reported IQ of 225. A physicist, Hirata has worked for NASA and later worked as a physics and astronomy professor.

 3.  Marilyn vos Savant


While her score has been disputed, vos Savant is widely considered to have the highest IQ on living record at a supposed 228. She is well known for her “Ask Marilyn” column in Parade. Her husband is Dr. Robert Jarvik, designer of the first successfully-implanted artificial heart.

2.  Terence Tao -



Terence Tao is a Chinese-American mathematician who has been estimated to have an IQ as high as 230. Tao scored a 760 on the old math SAT when he was 9 years old. Both of his brothers are also extremely gifted.

1. Christopher Langan


Considered by many to be the smartest person alive today, Christopher Langan is an autodidact (self-taught) who had a difficult upbringing in Montana and bulked up in order to fight off bullies as well as a temperamental stepfather. His IQ is reported to be between 195-210.
