New iPhones Coming Sept. 9

Just as expected, Apple sent out invitations on Thursday for what's presumed to be its big iPhone event of the year.

The invitation, which coyly says "wish we could say more," revealed that the "exclusive event" will be held on Sept. 9 at 10 a.m. PT. It will be held at the Flint Center for the Performing Arts in Cupertino, California, which is Apple's hometown.
It's also the same location where Apple debuted the Macintosh computer in 1984, 30 years ago this year. Perhaps the Flint Center was chosen as a way to pay homage to that groundbreaking product with a new one: the iWatch, which is also rumored to be making an appearance.

It's expected that Apple will launch the iPhone 6 in what is believed to be two sizes, a 4.7-inch model and a larger version at 5.5 inches, possibly called the iPhone 6L.
The price tag for the new iPhones may be a bit higher than before, thanks to a sapphire screen (instead of a glass one) that's typically used in luxury watches. The inclusion of a sapphire screen will make it much more difficult to scratch.
Apple previously announced some of the core features coming to iOS 8 , which will launch with the iPhone 6. The updates include new keyboards for typing, a battery usage indicator so you know which apps are the most draining, camera features like time-lapse capture for video, interactive notifications, TouchID for apps and a greater focus on health and smart home automation. Also on deck: a smarter Siri.

pple is also rumored to be introducing a reversible Lightning cable for the iPhone 6 that allows you to plug it into USB ports from either end, with no "right" or "wrong" side. The existing Lightning connector can plug into an iPhone or iPad in any way, but the latest design will bring the orientation flexibility to both ends of the cable.
But don't expect new iPad models to debut at the event. It's believed that the company — which is reportedly working on an iPad significantly larger (12.9 inches) than its existing models, the 9.7-inch iPad and the 7.9-inch iPad mini — will hold an iPad-specific event in October.

HTC announces the world's first 64-bit Android phone

Around a year ago, Apple announced the iPhone 5S, the first and so far only phone to run on a 64-bit processor. Now, as noted by AnandTech, HTC has announced the first Android phone to make use of the same ARMv8 technology that Apple's A7 chip employs. Unlike the iPhone 5S, though, HTC's Desire 510 is a pretty budget-conscious affair; aside from the 1.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor with LTE, it features a 4.7-inch 854 x 480 screen, a five-megapixel camera, and 1GB of RAM.

The primary advantage of 64-bit processing is the ability to address more than 4GB of RAM, so the Desire 510 isn't going to set any power records. Android itself doesn't even support 64-bit yet, so unless this phone gets updated from 4.4 KitKat to the new Android L version, its architectural credentials will be little more than a footnote in the history of mobile computing. But it's an important milestone nonetheless, showing that Qualcomm has jumped into the 64-bit race.

Rice Bucket Challenge — And You Should Take It

There’s little information about the prevalence of Lou Gehrig’s Disease, or ALS, in India. Some say it is highly under-reported and extremely difficult to diagnose. Others say it’s a white man’s disease and does not concern Indians. Either way, Bollywood celebrities acted in poor taste when they soaked themselves in ice water for cheap thrills while paying no homage to the awareness movement we know as the Ice Bucket Challenge.

Now, Manju Latha Kalanidhi, a journalist in Hyderabad, is trying to initiate her own internet meme, and it’s called the Rice Bucket Challenge. (No, not the idiotic onetaken by Miley Cyrus.)
Kalanidhi’s meme involves giving away a bucket of rice to the poor.

The World's Most Eco-Friendly Car

You would never think that a single plant could solve most of the world's problems, well it can. Hemp has over 50,000 uses, why this plant remains illegal is causing confusion among many. Everything from clothes, medicine, fabrics, fuel and more, hemp is definitely a large threat to a variety of corporations that control energy, health and a number of other industries. Many corporations would see a decline in profit if hemp were to be legalized. One in particular this article will focus on is the automobile industry.

The world's most Eco-friendly car, the Kestrel, was designed in Canada by Calgary-based Motive Industries INC. Unlike the United States government, the Canadian government is open to hemp farming and actively supporting the industrial hemp industry and its potential benefit for us and our environment. It has a top speed of 90 km per hour and a range of approximately 100 miles before needing to be recharged. It's powered by a motor made by TM4 Electrodynamic Systems, a Quebec based company. Its weight is approximately 2,500 pounds, and has a very affordable price given the fact that hemp is very easy to grow and requires nothing but the sun. It fits 4 passengers and the production version of it was supposed to be available this year. Since the unveiling of it a couple of years ago, everything all of a sudden has become quiet. You can contact the developers here for more information if you are interested or would like to get your hands on one. The body of the car is completely impact-resistant and made entirely out of hemp. When we think of cars we think of gasoline, steel, pollution, etc. Even though we have had some innovative and visually pleasing cars on the road today, it is difficult to ignore the sheer environmental impact that modern cars create. This isn't the first time we've seen a hemp car making noise, did you know that Henry Ford spent more than a decade researching and building his Model T car? This was in the 1940′s, it was completely made from hemp. This car was 10 times stronger than steel and was also designed to run off of hemp bio-fuel! Whatever happened to this idea? Read more about that here. To think that even one of the founders of a major car manufacturer was trying to give the world a vehicle that was safe, strong and clean for the environment is good to know. At the same time, his invention was so suppressed that it is somewhat disheartening. How did we go from such an obvious and intelligent discovery, to using gasoline, steel and other non-harmonious materials? It's important to keep in mind that not only do we need to look at the pollution factor of material while in use, we should also be aware of the pollution caused from manufacturing and creating of cars from raw materials. Looking at hemp, it complies with every Eco-standard that exists today; in fact, it blows them out of the water. The suppression of this technology is largely due to the fact that hemp was outlawed in the US in 1937 due to the potential damaging effect it would have on many powerful industries at that time. I highly recommend you check out the full story we wrote on how hemp became illegal. The Kestrel's hemp composite body shell passed its crash test in strong form, unlike steel, the panels bounce back into shape after impact. Hemp also has the same mechanical properties as glass. It is even lighter than glass and these properties help boost fuel efficiency. The oldest known records of hemp farming go back 5000 years in China. For thousands of years, 90% of all ships sails and rope made from hemp. Hemp is an unlimited, forever lasting resource. For that reason alone it is a threat to our current financial and economic systems. It seems the systems we have in place are used to justify why products like this cannot be mass marketed and mass distributed. It's time for a change, and it's time for us to implement new methods and technologies that are more harmonious with the planet.
