Rice Bucket Challenge — And You Should Take It

There’s little information about the prevalence of Lou Gehrig’s Disease, or ALS, in India. Some say it is highly under-reported and extremely difficult to diagnose. Others say it’s a white man’s disease and does not concern Indians. Either way, Bollywood celebrities acted in poor taste when they soaked themselves in ice water for cheap thrills while paying no homage to the awareness movement we know as the Ice Bucket Challenge.

Now, Manju Latha Kalanidhi, a journalist in Hyderabad, is trying to initiate her own internet meme, and it’s called the Rice Bucket Challenge. (No, not the idiotic onetaken by Miley Cyrus.)

Kalanidhi’s meme involves giving away a bucket of rice to the poor.
